A trust is a legal document drafted by an attorney, designed to ensure that property and assets are transferred to the chosen heirs with maximum privacy and minimum taxes. The person who creates the trust is called a "trustor" (or "grantor," "creator," or "settlor"), and the individual or institution designated to make decisions about the trust assets is the "trustee." Do I need a trust?
Although many people believe trusts are just for those with considerable wealth, in reality, they can benefit anyone with valuable assets, including automobiles, jewelry, real estate, financial accounts, and insurance benefits. Trusts can help you achieve personal, financial and legal objectives, such as saving on estate taxes, minimizing probate, avoiding a guardianship, providing asset management and assuring personal wishes are carried out after your death. In other words, a trust can help you grow, protect and preserve assets for you and loved ones. Don't be uncertain about the amount of your estate; calculate your net worth now by using our  Net Worth Calculator.

There are many types of trusts, from living trusts to provide for asset management in the event of incapacity to special needs, incentive and generation skipping trusts for unique family circumstances.

Keep in mind that a will remains an important part of any estate plan, but often a will may not be enough to ensure the passing of your assets to the right people at the right time, without the burdens of taxes and probate court.

That's why trust services can give you complete peace of mind about the management, protection and distribution of your assets during all the stages of your life.

In many cases, wise planning will call for a trust company to act as the trustee for a trust established to achieve a personal financial goal. In other cases you may receive guidance on estate planning and the selection of an attorney to finalize the estate plan.
